The client being a traditional person, required a traditional Maharashtrian language and atmosphere to their residence. Considering their requirements and the basic concept of traditional wada, including an entry court, aangan, veranda, central courtyard, sloping roofs, etc., We designed traditional wada with modern amenities. Wada is planned depending on the weather conditions of the area.
The spatial arrangement is symmetrical as in the traditional planning style. It has an expansive aangan and rhythmic entry steps with a planter box that leads to the main building. The courtyard is considered a public area for social events. Stone deepmala is placed at the center as a strong architectural element. Light is observed to be one of the key features that bring to life using different architectural tools.

At the entrance, we’re welcomed by a spacious ‘aangan’- traditionally a lively space for gatherings as a form of public/ semi-public space. At the entrance of the Wada, one approaches the regal courtyard which is the heart of the house. Through the link of spaces on either side of the courtyard is the kitchen and dining area. The living areas and space around the court are more as lively and multifunctional area. On the north is the swimming pool with an outdoor sit-out in the lush landscape.
A water body emerges from the central deep mala and enters the courtyard through a unique design. The courtyard is a space of divine light and serves as a gathering space for all occasions. With one bedroom on the ground level and another 2 on the first floor, the house has a family space and home theatre on the upper levels.
